Environmental Assessments:

It covers a comprehensive scope of 8 environmental performance areas ranging from energy use and greenhouse gases to chemical management, and BEPI’s clear five-step approach enables companies to drive continuous improvement through supply chain mapping and analysis.

The assessments include two chapters: the assessment of legal compliance and the assessment of environmental performance.

AMORFI BEPI Performance areas

Amfori BEPI’s Environmental Assessment covers a comprehensive scope of environmental areas combined with a methodology based on the International Reference Life Cycle Data System (ILCD) data to shortlist the environmental hot spots for each producer. 8 EPAs include:

  1. EPA 1: Environmental Management System
  2. EPA2: Energy and Climate
  3. EPA3: Emissions to Air
  4. EPA4: Water & Effluents
  5. EPA5: Waste
  6. EPA6: Biodiversity
  7. EPA7: Chemicals
  8. EPA8: Nuisances

How long is an AMORFI BEPI audit valid?

The validity of an assessment/audit “cycle” is 24 months; therefore, a new activity can be requested 24 months after the latest one.

  1. Monitoring scope
  2. Overall score obtained by the business partner
  3. Follow-up activities

The validity of the environmental monitoring is calculated based on the report submission date. The validity of the focused scope environmental monitoring is 24 months, and neither the score obtained by the business partner nor the follow-up monitoring can impact the validity of the monitoring. For full-scope environmental monitoring, the length of the cycle and therefore the validity of the monitoring vary from 12 to 36 months depending on the overall score and follow-up, as detailed in the table below:

Corrective Action Plan, Continuous Improvement & Follow-Up: Environmental Monitoring

The Environmental Monitoring report provides a business partner with a Corrective Action Plan (CAP), and the Continuous Improvement functionality on the amfori Sustainability Platform allows business partners to demonstrate and document their improvement activities. It also enables amfori members to closely monitor any risk mitigation actions.

The follow-up monitoring should be scheduled at least between 2 and 12 months after the initial environmental monitoring to provide the site with sufficient time to introduce and document relevant changes. Not respecting this guideline can result in a monitoring that identifies the same issues as the initial monitoring.
